Step into New York City in 1914 and explore the experiences of immigrant families through the story of Rebecca Rubin.

This literature-based unit study is part of the Learning Through Her Eyes™ curriculum, a series designed to help learners explore American history through the beloved American Girl historical characters.

Using Rebecca’s book series as the foundation, this guide combines reading comprehension, historical context, hands-on activities, and creative writing to help learners understand the world Rebecca lived in — from Ellis Island and tenement life to theater, traditions, and family life in early 20th century America.

Rather than simply reading the books, this curriculum encourages learners to think critically, ask questions, and connect historical events to real people and real stories.
